Brief History of PFG Optics, INC.
PFG Precision Optics, Inc. currently offers its customers over 34 years of optical experience. Since its founding in 1976, the company has placed industry leading emphasis on customer service, which is still embodied today by the company's vision statement. PFG has also demonstrated a clear and consistent pattern of growth and is continuously looking for new and better ways to serve our customers.
The founders of PFG were husband and wife, Don and Janet Green, and John L. Plummer. PFG was initially located in a 10,000 square foot building in Ocean Springs, Mississippi. At that time, the company had only five employees and machinery salvaged from other companies. Early parts manufactured by PFG consisted largely of rifle scope lenses and diagonal mirrors. The company quickly expanded further into military optics, which included submarine periscope optics, precision windows for the M1 tank, fire control optics, and a variety of assemblies. During this time, optics for TOW and Cruise missile systems were also manufactured.
The eighties and nineties brought opportunities for growth via a number of important changes. In August of 1987 the current plant was acquired. This former Coca-Cola bottling plant offered a great deal of potential in its 35,000 square feet, but renovations were needed to adapt this large open floor plan to suit the needs of PFG. In the early nineties PFG began manufacturing more commercial optics, including various types of penta prisms and high reflector mirrors for construction lasers. PFG also manufactured optics for a startup company that manufactured optical video, voice, and data switching ahead of the telecom boom. The late nineties brought more expansion in the defense market with the mass production of the submarine periscope optics and head windows for the US fleet. PFG also began making components for semiconductor wafer fabrication, reticule inspection, and telecommunication fiber optic network equipment.
The new millennium brought record sales and profits. In 2004 PFG announced its ISO 9001:2000 certification. Our most recent development has been the acquisition of Alpine Research Optics, a specialist in UV optics that shares PFG's commitment to a high quality product and customer satisfaction.
During its more than 34 year history, PFG has built an exceptional reputation for manufacturing and coating very high quality, difficult to manufacture, precision optical components. The company is committed to the continual improvement of its manufacturing capability to meet ever more stringent tolerances.
